The Center for Restorative Solutions and Necessary Trouble Collective are coming together to offer an introduction to Nonviolent Communication (NVC) through an antiracist, anti-oppression lens.
This course is for white-identifying antiracists*. Nonviolent Communication provides a set of skills and a practice that teaches us how to act and live in full alignment with our core values. It does this by giving us the tools to increase our self-awareness, work constructively with difficult emotions and find a way to care for ourselves and others even in times of conflict. Ultimately, we create more compassion, understanding, and authenticity in our lives and the lives of those around us; as we increase our capacity to attend to impact, while holding everyone’s humanity and needs.
Facilitators: Pam Orbach & Catherine Strickland
Outcomes:
Expand your frame of reference so that you can hold in your awareness how others might experience what is happening in ways that are not obvious to you.
Uncover your unconscious racial bias so you can respond to racially charged events with integrity and care
Care for yourself and still show up for BIPOC when harm happens
Be accountable for harm in ways that build trust and prioritize connection.

Free from blame. Free from fear. Rich in learning. Learn how to give feedback that prioritises learning and is blame-free.
Learn a nonviolent approach to giving and receiving feedback that moves us from right/wrong thinking to engaging people in their full humanity in support of connection and learning.
During this four-session series, learn how to hold space for human needs, how to surface the “why” of behaviour or missed performance expectations, and when and how to surface connection for belonging and purpose.
We will work with your own examples, helping you prepare to give feedback or understanding previous feedback sessions that didn’t get the results you were hoping for.
